Comic Book Challenge Day 28

Comic Book Challenge Day 28: Favorite Comic Publisher Marvel This was another hard choice to make. Valiant Entertainment would be a close 2nd right now. All of their books are quality right now, and I am really enjoying it all. However, Marvel is absolutely killing it for me right now. Titles like Thor: God of Thunder and Avengers are delivering some large scale epic story telling. The X-Men books are some of the most enjoyable all-around great books on the market right now. Other titles like Guardians of the Galaxy, Hawkeye, and Superior Foes of Spider-Man offer some hilarity and fun that...

Comic Book Challenge Day 8

Comic Book Challenge Day 8: Best Series Being Published Thor God of Thunder Today was another hard decision to make. There are so many awesome titles coming out each week, but I ended up going with Thor God of Thunder. Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic are killing it right now. There is a serious story being told that is deep in myth, yet it still contains moments of fun, humor, and outright bad-assery. The antagonist is complex and has a distinct motive. This is a hugely epic story spanning both space and time. I am enjoying each and every issue that comes out. I’m including my short list of...

Review: Indestructib...

INDESTRUCTIBLE HULK #1 (MARK WAID: WRITER, LEINIL YU: ARTIST) Throughout the past few weeks we have been seeing a lot of the Marvel Now! titles being released. I must admit that I was not excited for Indestructible Hulk at all. The Hulk is not...

Review: Uncanny Avengers #1

UNCANNY AVENGERS #1 (RICK REMENDER: WRITER, JOHN CASSADY: ARTIST) It’s October and the Marvel NOW! rebrand / relaunch (not a reboot) is kicking off with Uncanny Avengers. I’m a newer Marvel reader, and haven’t delved much into the sea of X-Men and Avengers books. There are a lot to choose from, so hearing about new number ones and jumping on points got me pretty excited about this book when it was announced. However, I was pretty upset with how disappointing this book turned out. Objectively, yes, this is not a bad comic. The art is pretty stellar, and it has the makings to set...

Review: Captain Marvel #1

CAPTAIN MARVEL #1 (KELLY SUE DeCONNICK: WRITER, DEXTER SOY: ARTIST) Let me start off by saying if you are looking for a new book, this is a fantastic one to pick up. You don’t have to know anything about the previous Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel a.k.a. Carol Danvers, or any other current Marvel comics either. This story is full of heart, humor, and a bunch of action. We are introduced to our titular hero in the opening panel, while she is in mid-battle fighting alongside Captain America. A short while later Ms. Marvel is exchanging quips with Spider-Man. In just a few pages DeConnick has...

The Amazing Spider-Man is Spectacular

Review for The Amazing Spider-Man It’s not everyday that a movie makes its way to theaters in Japan before the US release. The Amazing Spider-Man is an exception, and it is certainly an exceptional movie. The film stars Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker / Spider-Man and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy with a support cast including Sally Field, Martin Sheen, and Denis Leary. The casting decisions made were excellent, and the on screen chemistry between Garfield and Stone is amazing (cheap pun)! The two really sell it in the awkward yet humorous bumbling that follows when Peter Parker tries to ask...
