Comic Book Challenge Day 21

Comic Book Challenge Day 21: Favorite Writer Jeff Lemire / Brian Michael Bendis Wow, this was a really really hard to decision to reach. There are so many good writers out there both past and present. I decided to go with current writers, since I have read more work from the past 8 years than past works. Jeff Lemire is a writer than really gets characters. He gets to the core of who the are, and brings out deep emotions and feelings in his story. His work on Frankenstein & Animal Man raised the bar. Even when the “Rot World” crossover dipped and dragged on,...

Comic Book Challenge Day 20

Comic Book Challenge Day 20: Favourite super power or skill Teleportation I’ve spent hours and days thinking about this as I walk home from the station or while riding the train around Tokyo. Teleportation would just be a cool power to have for getting around. Even with super speed or flight, I could get anywhere instantly. In a fight you can port behind, on top of, or to the side of an opponent. If you wanted to fly you could just teleport across the sky really fast, and maybe with the momentum it would feel like flying. Flying and speed were close runner ups, but I chose teleportation...

Comic Book Challenge Day 19

Comic Book Challenge Day 19: Comic book city/universe you wish you lived in Saga / Sextillion Warning: This post ain’t for small kids. I spent along time thinking about which city in the DC or Marvel universes I would like to live in, but they all seemed to be real shitty places to live. Building are always getting destroyed or supervillains are throwing around poisonous gas. I figure if I’m gonna live in a place that is dangerous, I might as well choose one that let’s me be a degenerate, so if I happen to get hit by a random bullet or steel beam, at least I get to go out with...

Comic Book Challenge Day 18

Comic Book Challenge Day 18: Favourite B-list character Hawkeye A year ago I may have had a different answer for you, but Matt Fraction has turned Clint Barton aka Hawkeye into one of my favorite characters. He’s not necessarily the most reliable guy, and can be kind of an ass, but Fraction has made him a loveable character via all of the off duty antics Clint gets into. He’s just a normal guy with normal problems, but he also happens to be a superhero, so sometimes he bites off a little more than he can...

Comic Book Challenge Day 17

Comic Book Challenge Day 17: Most Useless Villain Grey Goblin A hard question, but today I really had to think about a useless villain. My gut was to go with any whacky silver-age foes from a Batman or Superman comic. Instead I’m looking at “useless” from a different point of view. The Grey Goblin, or Gabriel Stacy, is the son of Gwen Stacy and Normal Osborn! As a fan, I just don’t get the Gwen/Norman affair thing. It was all written after her death and just seemed like needless and unnecessary retconning. The kids that were born from that relationship, I feel, were also...

Comic Book Challenge Day 16

Comic Book Challenge Day 16: Funniest comic book/comic book scene Guardians of the Galaxy Issue #3 had some pretty hilarious moments, and this series so far has had a nice balance of humor, action, and is gearing up for some epic shit. The page I’m including below is one of my favorites, because of the last panel. It’s probably not the “funniest” pages, but it’s a favorite. Do you get what I mean? Like I know some stuff is funnier, but I just like this one more. Yeah, I think you get...
