Saturday being my birthday, I decided to go to the Tokyo Game Show. It was my first time to go, and was something I had been wanting to go to for several years, but for some reason never went. We waited about 15-20 minutes to get in due to the massive amount of people wanting to get their game fix. Upon entering we were immediately greeted with a FMV for the upcoming Ninja Gaiden 2 Sigma. Now I haven’t really gamed or been hardcore for a while now, so I found it impressive even though it’s an updated version for a 1+ year old game.
The floor was rather crowded and could be a challenge to navigate. One of the first things I saw was a booth for the upcoming “new” Lunar game. Again I was captivated with an upgraded version of an already released game… However, I sold my old Playstation Working Designs LUNAR: SSSC years ago for a hefty price. I may have to crack down and buy a PSP finally.
We ran over to the food court to grab a quick snack. I had curry. It was kinda crap, but whatever. I don’t think convention halls are known for their gourmet meals. So anyways, after lunch we perused the merch area. I would have liked to look at the Square Enix stuff, but they had quite a line. I’m moving in with my girlfriend, so she was giving me warnings ad nauseam about buying crap I don’t need. I did buy one thing for a friend for Christmas. I’ll post a pic now. I think one of my friends knows its for him.
We soon moved over toward the Xbox area. We played a round of the new Dragon Ball Raging Blast for the girl, and Forza 3 for myself. Forza was setup with 3 screens (front and side windows) with a wheel and pedals. It was pretty fun and had an interesting feature where you could rewind if you spun out or wrecked your car adding some clairvoyance to the game. I wanted to play the demo for End of Eternity, but the line was rather long so we moved on. It looks pretty badass, and I will probably have to pick it up.
We went by the Final Fantasy XIII booth, but they had already stopped letting people get in line to play, so I had to miss out on that. Bummed about long lines I went to the International area and played some Chinese MMO, Bounty Hounds. I got some cute Taiwanese/Chinese girl to help me play, so it wasn’t all that bad. I can’t really comment if the game was great or not, since I had someone telling me which keys to push most of the time. I ended up taking on some raid boss by myself. Since they had like unlimited potions turned on for the demo, I was able to spam that and stay alive. Eventually I got distracted and died. The girl asked me if I played WoW and if it was similar. I said kinda, but I know how to play WoW.
One of our last stops was over to the NTT Docomo area. I got in line to play a Gundam mobile game. For a cell phone game it was pretty fun and had decent graphics. My game was up on the big screen and I won, so I felt happy about that since the guy in front of me lost. Gaijin 1, Japanese 1 Million. Speaking of Gundam, the head of RX-78-2 was at TGS. The same one from Odaiba.
There was lots of stuff to see and it was rather crowded, so I couldn’t play it all. I’ll have to work on becoming a freelance writer or something and getting a press pass for next year. We’ll see how that turns out…. And now for your viewing pleasure a few booth babes for you.
