Comic Book Challenge Day 17: Most Useless Villain
Grey Goblin
A hard question, but today I really had to think about a useless villain. My gut was to go with any whacky silver-age foes from a Batman or Superman comic. Instead I’m looking at “useless” from a different point of view.
The Grey Goblin, or Gabriel Stacy, is the son of Gwen Stacy and Normal Osborn! As a fan, I just don’t get the Gwen/Norman affair thing. It was all written after her death and just seemed like needless and unnecessary retconning. The kids that were born from that relationship, I feel, were also pointless. The only purpose for this villain is to create some emotional connection with Peter, the only use they really serve is to spit on Peter’s memory of Gwen. Uhg… Okay, I’m done. Rant over.
