Comic Book Challenge Day 12: A Comic Everyone Should Read
Essex County
I was planning to go with a stock answer like Watchmen or some other work from Alan Moore like The Killing Joke or V for Vendetta, but when looking at the vast majority of people, I don’t think they could force themselves and sit down to read something along these lines.
My choice for today would be Essex County by Jeff Lemire. It’s one of those stories that I think anyone can enjoy or pick up. You don’t need to like hero comics. If you like good drama and human interaction you can enjoy this emotionally packed story. I’ve been meaning to get my parents to read this, and coupled with a teenager that would be my ultimate litmus test for an “everyone” comic book. Can a teenager and an over 50 mother enjoy it? The answer is yes.
